Nigeria is plagued by a malignant Cancerous disease called corruption, this problem is almost obliterating Nigeria from committee of nations. Every rograms established to mitigate the effects of suffering of citizens are converted into cesspools of corruption. NDDC, FRSC, Provision of palliatives during the pandemic, student scholarships programs, Nigerian disaster management programs, poverty alleviation programs, all became cesspools of corruption and drainage sewage collection. The ineptitude, dystopian, and intrinsically destructive administrative culture of chaos must change. We must put up a safeguards to ensure effective and corruption-free proactive and reactive governance decisions. This requires a combination of strategies, policies, and actions. For effective functioning of any organization, there must be some level of transparency and accountability by making government information easily accessible to the public. Implement mechanisms such as open data initiatives, freedom of information acts, and public reporting to ensure accountability. Nigeria citizen are totally disengaged from participation in public consultations, feedback mechanisms, and social audits. The disengagement of citizens is as a result of lack of trust due to recalcitrant corruption in the government. We need effective and Strong Anti-Corruption Measures where everyone is accountable and no one is above the laws We need a robust anti-corruption laws and regulations. The government must reform anti-corruption agencies or commissions with investigative and prosecutorial powers. Promote the independence of these agencies and ensure their resources and capacities are adequate. Encourage reporting mechanisms for corruption, protecting whistleblowers, and providing incentives for reporting. We need to Strengthen our rule of Law by developing independent and impartial judiciary to ensure the enforcement of laws and regulations. The government should Provide training and resources to law enforcement agencies to combat corruption effectively. Promote a culture of integrity and ethics within government institutions. Enhancing Efficiency and Effectiveness. Implement streamlined and accountable decision making processes. Invest in technology solutions to automate processes, reduce human discretion, and minimize opportunities for corruption. Encourage evidence-based policymaking by relying on research, data, and expert opinions. Professionalism and Meritocracy: We must not allow the repeat of the shenanigans that took place during the disastrous Mohamadu Buhari administration, which was the worst since Nigerians independence by ensuring that appointments and promotions within the government are based on merit and qualifications rather than political or personal affiliations. We lack clear performance evaluation systems for public officials and this is essential if you must checkmate impunity by establishing codes of conduct and ethics for public servants. Robust monitoring and evaluation is fundamental for effectiveness of governance decisions through monitoring and evaluation mechanisms. Conduct audits and evaluations of government programs and projects to identify inefficiencies, gaps, and potential corruption risks. The last election conducted in Nigeria was a monumental failure because of deliberate deviations and violations of the electoral rules. To avoid such corrupt elections again, all the actors in the jaundiced election must be prosecuted to serve as deterrent, irrespective of who benefited from the fraud . We must make the use of technology for real-time monitoring, transmission of election results data analysis, and reporting must be a fundamental process of our election to save our democracy from extinction. We need genuine collaboration and International Cooperation between government institutions, civil society organizations, and the private sector to collectively fight corruption. Seek international cooperation and exchange best practices in governance and anti-corruption efforts. Majority of citizens are ignorant and lack basic education, we need to promote civic education and awareness campaigns to educate citizens about their rights and responsibilities. Educate public officials about the importance of integrity, ethics, and the negative impacts of corruption. It is essential to note that effective governance and the eradication of corruption require long term commitment, political will, and sustained efforts from all stakeholders involved.
